It’s time to meet the inspiring Carys Herbert, VFA Learning’s Nursing Trainer. She’s the heart and soul of our nursing department, combining deep knowledge with a passion for teaching. For Carys, nursing is about the little things—a cup of tea, a smile, a kind touch, or taking time to listen. She believes these gestures define true nursing and make a real impact. We couldn’t agree more!
We only had to ask Carys if she would answer a few questions for us, and she was eager to share her insights.
1. What inspired you to teach nursing?
I love teaching students because I want to inspire them to be amazing in their role as a nurse. Finding their passion and understanding that knowledge is the foundation of great nursing, but finding purpose and meaning in their job role is what brings true job satisfaction.
2. How do you stay up-to-date with industry advancements and use them in your teachings?
By working in the field and always looking for opportunities to learn new skills and broaden my education.
3. Can you share a particularly memorable experience or success story from your time as a trainer at VFA Learning?
During my first few classes, I was anxious and fumbling with the PowerPoint. My students were kind and supportive, quietly coming alongside me. It felt like we were all on the same team, supporting one another.
4. What advice would you give to someone considering pursuing a career in your field?
It’s the little things that matter—a cup of tea, a smile, a kind touch, or taking time to listen. This is the true essence of nursing, and we can make such an impact if we nurse in this way.
5. If you could have any teaching-related superpower, what would it be and why?
To have students mesmerised and on the edge of their seats for the whole class, to inspire and encourage.
