The HLT52021 Diploma of Remedial Massage will give you a high level of understanding of anatomy and physiology, equipping you to assess and treat clients physically.

In addition, you will learn how to grow your relationship-building skills for successful interaction with clients and other healthcare practitioners.

Upon graduating, you will use your skills and knowledge to offer advanced manual treatment for those suffering from sports or work-related injuries.

The course is offered in small learning workshops, allowing students to interact with clients, assess their needs and interpret the results to decide on the best treatment to restore healthy joints and muscle function.

Key Study Areas

The HLT52021 Diploma of Remedial Massage explores a range of exciting techniques designed to treat clients musculoskeletal complaints including myofascial release, joint mobilisations, muscle energy techniques and positional release. 

Anatomy and Physiology

Gain an in-depth understanding of how the body works, and in particular the intricacies of the musculoskeletal system and how if informs your practise as a massage therapist.

Remedial Massage 

Goal-oriented form of massage used as a treatment in its own right, or used in conjunction with other fields like Physiotherapy and Chiropractics to assist in the healing process

Pain and Neuroscience

Learn the most recent information regarding pain science and how we can incorporate this into the clinical practise as a therapist. 

Business Management

Understanding how you can start and manage your own business, the best business practices in the industry, and ethical behaviour in the workplace.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however students must successfully complete the following:

VFA Learning Pre-Training Review – to determine if this course is suitable

Language, Literacy and Numeracy Test and Digital course ready test (LLND) – to determine if the student meets the required level for skills in reading, writing, oral communication, mathematics, and digital literacy

Clinical Experience

Students undertake clinical hours at VFA Learning Clinic. These hours are completed under the direct supervision of our qualified and industry current trainers, providing students with the opportunity to develop clinical skills in patient assessment and management. Students are required to complete a total of 200 practical hours:

  • 40 hours of Relaxation Massage
  • 100 hours of Remedial Massage Treatments
  • 60 hours Additional Clinical Hours

Flexible Study

We understand that many of our students need to work while learning, so we have developed a blended option for this course. It includes online theory components and completion of all practical observations in a simulated work environment or placement as required by the qualification.

Course Duration

The course is delivered over 12 months full-time following a weekly schedule of:

  • 2 days of classroom-based training and assessment
  • 1 day of online training and assessment

Students can also expect self-directed studies and practical practice on the remaining days of the week to reinforce skills.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer

RPL is a process that assesses your competency—acquired through formal and informal learning—to determine if you meet the requirements for a unit of study. Students with previous skills, knowledge or experience are entitled to apply for RPL for a full qualification or individual units of competency. Students will be required to produce evidence and undertake assessment as part of the RPL process.

If you have previously completed a unit/s of competency and can provide valid evidence of AQF certification (issued by an RTO), you are eligible to apply for a Credit Transfer and would not be required to undertake further study for the unit.

AQF Certification Outcome

Only students who successfully complete all required units of competency will be issued with an AQF diploma qualification. Students who complete one or more units, but do not complete the whole qualification will be issued with a statement of attainment for the completed units only.
