Flexible Learning

We love flexible learning

Flipping Traditional Classrooms for Better Results

We started implementing a flexible learning model across our courses before it was cool. In 2015, we launched a FLIP Learning pilot program in our Certificate III and IV in Fitness students. The trial achieved greatly improved study results and very positive student feedback.

It was a big success. Since 2016 all of our courses have incorporated this new style of learning.

What Is ‘Flipped’ Learning?

Our modified Flipped Learning is a teaching method that reverses the traditional lecture and homework elements. Say goodbye to having to turn up for boring lectures because ours are fun, and we’ve moved them online so you can do them at home before you come to class. Instead, face-to-face sessions focus on ‘doing’ rather than reading or listening. Students can then better understand key concepts, initiate further investigation and increase their active participation in learning.

Our students love this way of learning – and we do too. The modified Flipped learning also allows students to reduce their on-campus hours, transferring some of their studies online. This is a massive benefit if you’re juggling study, work and life commitments. Who isn’t? Right?

Customised Online Learning

We’ve ‘flipped’ the traditional classrooms on its head. We offer an online learning program alongside the classroom experience, but not as you might expect. Students do what is traditionally known as ‘homework’ before class, with readings and tutorials completed as online learning.

Explorative and Engaging Content

Classroom time is spent exploring the content and engaging in discussions with their teachers and fellow students. Our class sizes are smaller, and we find that the modified approach increases participation and creates a more nurturing learning environment. Bonus, it promotes bonding between peers and the creation of friendships.

Inclusive Learning

We deliver the lecture and reading materials online before the class meets. Giving everyone equal access levels out the learning playing field. Face-to-face time is spent cementing concepts and theory in sessions so everyone understands and learns together.

Based in Research

The flipped classroom model is a well-known evidence-based educational approach for student-centred learning. There’s an increasing body of research highlighting its positive impact on learning, and many leading international universities and education providers have made the flip – even Harvard University.
